Eye Gaze
Dear Gordon and Ann
We are writing to say a huge thank you to the foundation for providing our pupils with the opportunity to communicate through the purchase of the Eye Gaze device and equipment needed to use it with everyone. We have already been able to loan it out to the first pupil, who has now ‘proved’ he can use it and will be getting his own device funded in the near future.
This is a statement from his class teacher:
E has been using the device when standing in the mornings, which has allowed him to improve his engagement in classroom activities using the PODD grid set to communicate to the adults around him and join in with class discussions which he has previously had no engagement with. He is able to independently navigate around the device and find the games he would like to play during snack time and lunch time as well as when nobody is watching!
E is getting very good at the basketball game and the ball bouncing game, scoring upwards of 30 sometimes! He has also found a love of snake with a score of 205 with continued engagement the whole time! He is able to engage with the Eye Gaze for prolonged periods of time and loves to join in classroom chats and add his opinions even if these are ‘boring’ and ‘hurry up’ with a giggle!
The Eye Gaze really has helped him find his voice and a platform for assessment to hopefully receive the funding for his very own device. Without this devic e our young man struggles to engage and does not have his own autonomous voice, however with this opportunity of the Eye Gaze he is finding his voice as cheeky as he is becoming and his true character is showing!
Thank you all again for your support. Without this, we would not be able to support our pupils to achieve their full potential.
Have a good summer,
Yours sincerely
Rosie Clark and all at Woodlands
