Our 30th anniversary

In May 1995, Gordon and Ann Parris were honoured to be appointed Mayor and Mayoress of Surrey Heath, a role that presented them with a unique opportunity to give back to the community in a lasting and meaningful way. During their time in office, they were inspired to focus their efforts on supporting children who face exceptional challenges in life. This passion led them to establish a new charity, the Children With Special Needs Foundation — a heartfelt initiative aimed at bringing joy, support, and practical help to children with special needs and their families.

Recognising the importance of teamwork and community involvement, Gordon and Ann invited eight close friends to join them as the founding Committee of the charity. With shared compassion and commitment, this small group began the monumental task of fundraising and outreach, laying the groundwork for what would become a vital and enduring part of the community.

This month marks a truly remarkable milestone — the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Children With Special Needs Foundation. Over the past three decades, the charity has grown from a modest local initiative into a well-respected organisation that has raised over £8 million. These funds have directly helped improve the lives of thousands of children through specialised equipment, educational opportunities, accessible facilities, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences that create lasting memories.

The success and longevity of the foundation would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated Patrons, generous donors, tireless volunteers, and countless friends who have stood beside us through every challenge and triumph. Their belief in our mission and continued support have helped us go from strength to strength, ensuring that no child is left behind due to their special needs.

As we celebrate this incredible 30-year journey, we reflect with pride on all we have achieved — and we look ahead with hope and determination to continue making a difference in the lives of our very special children for many more years to come.
