Anna Takes Off

Anna Scott is 15 and plays flute in the Camberley Youth Wind Orchestra. Thanks to Children With Special Needs she is able to join her friends on a four-concert tour to Canada next year! Anna has been a member of the orchestra for over a year and has been practicing for her Grade 6 examination.

She suffers from a tumour on her pituitary gland that has affected her body's production of growth hormone. Fortunately, following a CAT scan, it was discovered that the lump is a cyst and is safe left in place for the moment. Tests have confirmed that it has been there since birth and that it has caused irreversible damage to the gland's production of growth hormone, sex hormone and thyroid hormone but all three can be replaced artificially.

Anna injects herself daily and will have to continue treatment for life the growth hormone will keep her bones healthy even after she has stopped growing. She attends Great Ormond Street and the Atkinson Morley Hospitals and is at Tomlinscote School in Frimley.

Anna's parent's, Yvonne and Paul, say that this trip is just what she needs after the trauma of the past nine months.
